Description:
Large, long-tailed, fairly plain backed typical thrush. Uniform grey upperparts and wings. Always shows reddish-orange at sides of tail, which can be very prominent in flight. Adult has red supercilium, throat and breast, grey upperparts, and whitish underparts.
Distribution:
Vagrant all across Gilgit-Baltistan, usually in the company of Black-throated Thrush. Found in grassy scrubby hillsides and in forest edge, willow groves, fields, gardens, orchards, pastures and cultivated ground, from lowlands to 3000m.
Behavior:
Forages mainly on ground and in low vegetation; in winter, often in mixed flocks with other thrush species. But not highly gregarious compared to Black-throated Thrush. Mainly feeds on invertebrates including beetles, locusts, ants, earthworms, spiders, insect larvae. In autumn and winter, berries and some seeds.
